The Hunter Hurricanes is the only regional team in the Australian National League Water Polo competition.
The club prides itself on being the pathway for regional players of all ages to play in the highest level of competition in Australia.

The club draws its core players from Regional NSW; 
as far north as Taree; 
as far west as Tamworth; 
as far south as the Central Coast and Albury; 
as well as from Newcastle and its surrounding region.

The Hurricanes also recruit international import players and have developed a good relationship with University water polo programs in the US with players coming from UCLA, UC Berkley, San Diego State, UC Pepperdine, UC Irvine to represent the club.
